A bass entrance can feel heavier when something pulls into it. BACKDRAFT makes that pickup from the sound itself: feed a short source into a diffuse chamber, reverse the result, and shape the pressure before the original hit lands.
Load a local bass shot, drum, vocal or texture up to six seconds long. Select the part that should feed the chamber. The full source stays at the arrival; the window supplies the material that approaches it. A labelled synthesized bass strike is included so you can hear the process immediately.
Eight vertical levels give you the swell’s contour. Drag them into a steep late climb, a gradual inhale, or an arc that retreats before the hit. Set the lead length and the silence between swell and source. Room decay, absorption and stereo spread shape the chamber, while separate levels decide how much pickup and original sound survive.
Tight pickup gives an entrance a quick intake of breath. Long inhale stretches the reversed chamber into a wider approach. Empty arrival withdraws before a gap and mutes the source, leaving space for a deliberate fakeout. Each is an editable starting shape.
Length changes repitch the reversed material. That rougher relationship between time and tone is part of the instrument. The dry arrival keeps its original pitch and duration.
Audition plays the exact rendered samples used by WAV export. Source/shaped comparison stays on the same clock, so the original lands at the same instant. Edits affect the next audition; a sounding one-shot keeps its starting shape.
Export a stereo 48 kHz, 16-bit WAV and place it before the entrance in Ableton. The export message gives the original hit’s offset for alignment. Save a recipe alongside the source when a shape works. Audio stays in the browser.
